Relationship Therapist, Psychologist, Psychiatrist: What are the Differences?

Relationship therapy, such as what we offer at Divan bleu, is a support offered by a professional as part of therapeutic help. This therapy is based on recognized humanistic approaches and differences itself from psychotherapy by focusing on the personal development of the client (self-relationship) and his/her relational competence (relation with others) rather than on the interpretation and treatment of pathologies. All of our therapists have followed a long process of personal therapy during their training, and continue this process during their professional activity.

In Canada, a psychologist is a health professional who holds a doctorate. The psychology practice consists of assessing psychological and mental functioning as well as identifying, recommending and implementing interventions and treatments to promote psychological health and restore the mental health of a human being interacting with their environment. Training in psychology does not require personal individual therapy.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor specialized in psychiatry who diagnoses, treats and attempts to prevent mental illness, psychiatric problems and emotional disorders. Because he/she is a doctor, they can prescribe medication.

How Much Does it Cost?

Individual therapy (adults, children, teenagers and sexology): $ 90 to $ 120
Couples therapy or sexology for couples : $ 120 to    $ 160 (according to the professional). You can see the exact prices on each professional’s bio on “Our Team” page.
