So you got the job, bought the condo, secured yourself a partner (or a few). Maybe you’ve even had children. Yet you’re finding yourself unhappy, unsatisfied, unfulfilled.

Nothing is particularly wrong. From the outside, everything looks great. All checks out.

You could think: “maybe I’m going through a midlife crisis.” But you’re in your thirties, maybe even your twenties, and that just makes no sense.

There’s a discomfort that seems to be constantly lingering in the background. A sense of unease. Something is not quite right and you just can’t seem to put your finger on it.

In your daily life, you realise that things that used to be fun are becoming a distraction from this unease.

Shopping, drinking, working in excess become ways to numb out and gain a feeling of satisfaction.

You could also simply start to keep yourself busy with activities to help you have a sense of meaning and purpose in your life.

These distractions help for some time, but inevitably the unease creeps back in.

When will this feeling go away?

You try to think it away. Telling yourself all sorts of things to reassure yourself. It’s just a phase and you’ll snap out of it soon, even though it’s been weeks, months, or even years.

Perhaps you’ve even spoken to your doctor about it, since the unease can sometimes manifest as aches or pains. Therapy could have been an option too, but no relief ever seems to last.

At this point, you may begin to notice a still small voice whispering signs of hope. The voice sounds like it’s coming from miles away, but you hear it faintly and feel yourself longing to hear it more clearly.

“There are a myriad of reasons as to why there is static between us and the divine…”

Without taking the time to pay attention to this voice, you may live your entire life in a constant state of unease and distraction, without ever growing to your full potential.

There must be something more…

This still small voice has many names. You can call it your Higher Power, your Higher Self, Source, God, Universe, I could go on.

No matter what you call it, it’s all the same. The version of yourself that knows what’s best for you. The part of you that decided to incarnate into the form you now inhabit, who knows exactly what you’re meant to be learning and becoming.

And there’s a lot in the way between you and that voice. There are a myriad of reasons as to why there is static between us and the divine, the scope of which is too large to even touch on in this article.

You are not alone. There are tools available to you.

The good news is that if you have a willingness to do the work needed to step away from old habits and belief systems that may no longer be serving you, there are many tools available to you.

I will be listing a few of my favorites below.

The first thing to remember is that you are here for a Divine purpose. Life has its own plan and we all have an important part to play in it.

Absolutely everyone alive on this planet at this moment is important.  There are no extra pieces and none missing either.

As Eckhart Tolle prefaces in one of my all time favorite books, The Power of Now:

“You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold.  That is how important you are!”

His book is a great starting point for all things spiritual and is listed as the first tool below.

Helpful Tools

Books

The Power of Now is a must read for any spiritual seeker. I personally have read this book many times and continue to find new nuggets of wisdom every time I pick it back up.

One Day My Soul Just Opened Up: 40 Days and 40 Nights Toward Spiritual Strength and Personal Growth, by Iyanla Vanzant, is a book which includes fantastic exercises and readings to do every day that will give you an instant practice to strengthen the connection to your higher self.

Vigil

Having personally experienced trauma being held in my body through the form of chronic pain, meditation has always been a little problematic for me.

The instruction of placing my attention inward, whether to my breath or any other part of my body only brought more attention to my pain and further exacerbated my anxiety, rather than experiencing the calm sensations others reported.

What worked better for me is what I would describe as a sister practice to meditation. It was taught to me by a dear teacher and friend as a practice named Vigil.

The concept is simple, and the results are profound. Set a time to practice Vigil. Somewhere where you won’t be interrupted, preferably somewhere in nature.

Instead of focusing on yourself, bring your attention outward and simply observe. Notice what is going on around you. That’s it!  Simply taking the time to stop, observe, notice, will give space for that voice to come through.

Spiritual Speakers

Through listening to talks from various figures in the spiritual community, I found Truths that spoke to me, and chose to ignore statements that didn’t feel quite right.

Hearing other people’s ideas, thoughts, beliefs on key issues helped me to hear my own voice and to find clarity on subjects I may never have even thought.

Here are a couple of examples of people whose words spoke to me:

  1. Marianne Williamson
  2. Mooji

Their sites and videos each contain a wealth of knowledge to aid you on your path.

As you continue to use the tools that feel right for you and deepen your practice in whichever form you choose, you will eventually begin to notice that this small voice gets a little louder. Its signal will get a little clearer and those feelings of unease and unfulfillment should transition to a stronger sense of purpose and clarity of focus.

There are many other tools and ways to access Divine Inspiration, including and not limited to booking a session with me at Divan Bleu.

It would be my pleasure to hear your personal story and guide you gently toward creating a life that feels truer and more in alignment. My intention is for you to be more in touch with a greater knowing you already have within and can access yourself. Using various tools from my certifications in yoga and energetic healing, we can work together, one on one, to make sure your still small voice gets heard loud and clear.

Whether choosing to read a book, start a daily practice, find a mentor or anything else that feels good for you, each is a tool for you to use until it’s time to put it down and pick up the next. My hope is that this article has left you with at least a sense of where to begin.

Best to you on your Journey,

Alisa Heart
